MINUTES OF THE FIJI-NEW ZEALAND BUSINESS COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON WEDNESDAY 30TH JUNE, 2004 AT 8.30AM, FTIB BOARDROOM

Minutes was moved by Warwick Downing and unanimously accepted by members.


 

NZAID funds are to be paid in July


May 2004 accounts were circulated and unanimously by members;

 

Chairman informed members of the following:
  • Sheraton Room bookings: 38 rooms booked at the Sheraton to date;
  • Registrations: 42 registrations were received by the secretariat to date;
  • Joint Conference Advertisements: Members agree that advertisements go out prior to the conference and a supplement come out after the joint conference, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise agreed to sponsor 2 advertisements;
  • Sponsors: Chairman advised committee that sponsor letters have gone out to the following companies:

    1. Colonial - confirmed to sponsor satchels and morning tea
    2. Westpac Bank - confirmed to sponsor afternoon tea
    3. Pacific Agencies - confirmed to co-sponsor lunch
    4. KPMG
    5. Fletcher Construction
    6. British American Tobacco


  • Joint Conference Program: Amendments made to the initial tentative program, is attached.

    It was agreed that:

    1. Chairman approach Mr Justin King of Qantas to be the Master of Ceremonies, in the event that he is not available Mr Martin Darveniza is to be approached;

    2. Mr Warwick Pleasse of Pleasse Beverages a recipient of the NZAID grant scheme to be approached to make a presentation at the joint conference, in the event that he is not available Mr Hank Arts is to be approached;

    3. Mrs Khan to be approach to present an overview of the Investment Climate in Fiji and recent policy changes to the Foreign Investment Act;

  • Conference Speakers: Confirmed conference speakers are as follows:

    1. Hon. Tomasi Vuetilovoni:
    2. Hon Jim Sutton Sutton:
    3. Roger Poulton:
    4. Radiqe Qereqeretabua

  • Panelist:Chairman/Regulator: Chairman to approach Mr Martin Darveniza

  • It was agreed that a task list be drawn up for Executive committee members, the following persons have agreed to look after the conference speakers:

    Kevin Farrington - Air New Zealand

  • Media: It was agreed that invitations be sent to the following media agencies:

    1. Fiji Times - Ms Sofie Foster
    2. Daily Post
    3. Fiji Sun
    4. Fiji TV
    5. Islands Business
    6. Review Magazine

  • Entertainment: Warwick Downing confirmed that a NZ school cultural group will be in Fiji in the duration of the conference and will arrange to secure them for the opening of the conference;



  • Chairman informed committee of a letter received from NZAID confirming the allocation of grants in July;
  • Second round of grant scheme advertisements are to be placed in the dailies;
  • Chairman informed members of 3 applications received for funding assistance:

    1. BTF 06/2004 Sea Kayak - Approved FJ$5795 to engage a NZ consultant, Mr Gareth Wheeler, to under-take an 8 day training program;

    2. BTF 07/2004 Image Lables - Request was declined on the grounds that the company had exhausted their funding eligibility

    3. EEF03/2004 South Pacific Spice - Approved FJ$3015 (50% of costs) for a consultant to carry out an audit for HACCP certification


  • There were no matters arising.

     

The meeting ended at 9.45am.
